Alternative Health Care
Alternative Health Care Clinic, Kalidanga
Alternative Health Care Clinic is a project of healing ministry of the Dumka-Raiganj Jesuit Province. Fr M. J. Peter started this ministry of healing through alternative means at Chilimpur parish of Dumka diocese and in the year 2000 shifted it to the new place called Kalidanga near Rampurhat in West Bengal. The majority of the people who come for treatment to this clinic are Tribals, and poor Muslims, Hindus and Christians. Approximately 120 patients receive treatment daily. There are also religious fathers and sisters who come for treatment. They are accommodated in the residence of the Jesuit community.
24 year old Asim Ansari from Murshidabad was suffering from Torticollis (a problem involving the muscles of the neck that causes the head to tilt down). He had treatment in various places for six years with no improvement. Finally he was brought to AHCC. After six months of treatment, he was fully alright and at present, he is able to do normal work and is a happy man.
Many patients come to AHCC as the last resort after they have found no relief in other hospitals and medical centres. 16 year old Sonali, a class 10 Santal girl was brought to the clinic in a state of coma. As she was lying on the table, Dr. M.J. Peter looked at her and told her, “In the name of Jesus, get up.” After a while she was brought out of the clinic walking normally. All the people sitting there, patients and others, were all wonder struck at the sight because they had seen the girl going to the room carried by the parents a few minutes ago, and now coming out on her own feet. God works wonders through the human instruments. It was a great experience of Jesus’ mighty hands working in the clinic.
At present, a dedicated team of two Jesuits, 2 well-trained doctors, a physiotherapist and 16 nurses give selfless service to bring moments of silver linings and message of hope and healing to the patients in the clinic.
